In recent years, both within and beyond the academic sphere, Graphic Medicine has become increasingly recognized. The unique interplay of visual imagery and written text has distinguished graphic narratives as a distinct space for communicating health experiences and voices that tend to be overlooked, marginalized and silenced. Personal accounts conveyed in both words and imagery play an important role in expanding how scholars, medical practitioners and patients define what constitutes valid medical knowledge.
